Making Perfume And Fragrances

July 3rd, 2009 · No Comments · Hand Crafted

The economy has made things difficult for everyone and people find the cost of perfume too much right now. Not many people think of it but you can make your own perfumes at home and this can save a lot of expenses. Perfume makes a great gift for friends and if you make it yourself it won’t cost you too much either.

The ingredients are readily available in most areas and you can prepare the ingredients using normal kitchen equipment. You might imagine you need a laboratory and a white coated scientist but that just isn’t the case.

You should start by deciding which type of perfume you would prefer to produce and once you have done that you can get the ingredients you require. The perfume you make yourself will be largely made up of water, essential oils and pure grain alcohol or you can simply use vodka. You can add additional scents to the mix when you are more experienced but these are all you really need. The different types of perfumes we are all familiar with are cologne, Eau De Cologne and Eau de Toilette.Blending of animal and vegetable oils is the way the big perfume houses achieve their powerful scents.

Every one of them will have an entirely different chemical makeup and they all give very different results from each other. You should be able to find these at local store s and they should not be too expensive. We can start making perfume once we have assembled our ingredients and decided on the equipment we will use for the process.

The most important ingredient in making perfume is the essential oil used to make the perfume you require. You get different results with each one as the chemical make up of them all is quite different. It helps if you understand about the notes used in perfume as these are terms to describe the scent using words like bass notetop, middle and bridge notes.

If you want to find out more there are many books about making perfume available online and you can buy kits that come complete with an instructional manual. Purchasing kits like these is not something you have to do every time you make perfume and they only cost between $30 and $60 usually.
