Maybe you could try out paper mache. though not very time consuming, it still takes a short while. just use pva glue on paper shreads and paste it on your mould. 15-30 mins is all you need to make maybe a vase. Then just leave it somewhere to dry for a few hours. You could also try doing it on a balloon if you want to make a mask.

Recycling is great! You can iron it, but not with too much heat and on the back side. Can also press tissue paper. Then either fold or better yet wrap around a cardboard tube if you have one from other wrapping paper. I personally love the gift bags used so much today. So much easier to store and reuse. If you have more than you think you can use, check with a local nursing home or daycare and maybe they can use it for crafts.
